Anyone in the world By Diana Ketchen I suffered from the classic version of depression . I started with bouts of it when I was seventeen, but it wasnt until my late thirties or early forties that it got so bad that I had to seek help. Over the years doctors prescribed Zoloft, Prozac, Paxil, Lexapro, and Wellbutrin. I got a little relief, but the pills made me so tired all I could do was lay around and then I put on weight, which made me more depressed. So I decided to try a natural approach. Here are the steps to recover from depression - these are the same steps that I have used: 1) I cant stress this one enough. Drink WATER, WATER, WATER, and more WATER! Drink approximately half your weight in water in ounces each day. (ex: If you weigh 150 pounds you need to drink 75 ounces of water a day). Your water should be bottled or filtered water. If you are a soda drinker, cut back, better yet, quit drinking that STUFF! If you are a soda drinker, start using soda as a special treat. When I was growing up in the mountains of West Virginia. We only made it to the grocery store a couple times a month, but when we did go we were allowed to get a bottle of coke. What a treat, and thats the way it should be. It has no nutritional value and only makes you fat. Do not and I repeat do not drink diet soda! I have done research on the artificial sweeteners that they use and have found information that artificial sweeteners can cause brain tumors. Soda is a tough one for me, because I love Cocoa Cola, so if I do drink a soda I drink regular. If you are a coffee drinker, drink your one cup in the morning to get you going then no more the rest of the day. 2) Use a natural anti-depressant. I have used prescription anti-depressants and as I said before, I did get a little relief from my symptoms but I gained thirty pounds on the prescription drugs, which made me more depressed because of the weight gain. I gained more weight than when I was pregnant. There are a lot of side effects to consider when you take prescription drugs. I do not want to have to worry about the side effects on top of my illness. Make sure the ingredients are herbs for depression. I've tried a lot and some work, some don't. Unfortunately I have found there is no magic pill. It's pretty much trial and error, as everyone's body chemistry differs. I take them still and my husband says I'm a whole lot nicer to be around and I have a lot more energy. My spurts of anger and mood swings have all but vanished. Something that my husband is very happy to see gone! He'll even remind me to take them, less I forget!! 3) Use good Multi Vitamin Supplements. Dont buy these at department stores, but instead buy them from a store that specializes in natural vitamin supplements or online from a reputable company. I buy mine from the company in the above link but there are a lot of good online companies. Just make sure they're natural and have been tested. 4) Other vitamins and supplements that you need are a good fish oil supplement that has your Omega Oils. You can also buy a Flax seed oil that has the omegas in it. 5) Eat a good healthy diet. I will tell you here to start using as many natural and organic products as possible. All of the chemicals that they put in our food are making us sick. Try to buy meat that is organic or has not been injected with hormones and chemicals. We women are already having to deal with our own unbalanced hormones. We do not need the ones that they give to the cows and other animals in our system making things worse. Try to get vegetables and fruits that are organic. If you cant afford organic, buy a fruit and vegetable wash that removes the wax and chemicals from the produce. Try to eat the deep colored fruits and vegetables they have more of the good nutrients in them. 6) Exercise. This is a hard one. When you are depressed, the last thing you have is energy to exercise, but you need to exercise to get your energy back. A catch 22. Start out slowly, even if it is only a ten minute walk or ten minutes on your treadmill. Something is better than nothing. 7) If you are a woman and are near menopause, use a Natural Progesterone Cream. I am 44 and use one. There are a lot of god ones out there but make sure it's natural and not synthetic. I have noticed that my mood swings have subsided and no more hot flashes, but it does take about three months of using the cream to get results. When you suffer from depression, it is a tremendous battle, but it is one worth fighting. My family had to put up with so much during my severe bouts of it. Depression hurts your relationships. I would get mean and say hurtful things, then cry all the time. I would spend weeks in bed at a time. On my good days I work, read, and do research about depression. I hope that my information will help you. It may take some time, but you will get a handle on it and if you treat it with natural products, a healthy diet, pure water, and exercise, you will be able to keep a handle on it. Remember, if depression hurts you depression hurts everyone around you! So please seek depression treatment and help Diana is a Natural Health Consultant, Weight Loss Specialist, Personal Trainer, Mental Skills Training Specialist and author of the Natural Health and Herbal Remedies website. Anyone in the world By Rondi Davis A great way to encourage reading Before you start, gather together:
2- 5 x 7 pieces of mat board
2-8 1/2 x 11 pieces of decorative paper (scrap book papers or wall paper scraps work well)
White glue
Several sheets of 8 1/2 x 11-inch card stock
One shoelace or piece of ribbon
Hole punch
Drill
Your kids imagination Directions 1. To house a collection of my kids stories, we made our own books.
Cut the mat board into two 5 x 7-inch pieces. Place each piece of mat board in the center of your decorative paper. 2. Wrap the edges of the paper around the mat board. The ends will almost meet in the middle. Repeat this process so you have two pieces of 5 x 7-inch mat board covered with your decorative paper. (Much like wrapping a small package.) Glue the folded edges in place. These will serve as the front and back cover of your book. 3. Cut the card stock into ten 5 x 7-inch sheets. Stack the sheets and place them horizontally in front of you. Punch two holes, a half-inch from the left-hand side. The holes should be spaced 2-inches apart. Drill corresponding holes in the two covers. 4. Place the paper between the front and back covers so the holes align. Thread the shoelace through the holes. Leave enough slack in the laces for the pages to open and lie flat on the table. Tie a knot. 5. Have your kids write and illustrate their own story. Younger children may want to dictate their story to you. Then let them do the illustrations. 6. Create several books and start your own library. Add a sign-out sheet in the front of each book so that the children can lend their books to friends.
They will love checking out each others books to read, and its even more fun to see who has read theirs. You have permission to reprint this article electronically or in print, free of charge, provided that each article is:

Anyone in the world By Steve Miers When you are applying for colleges, one of the most important things that you can do is to do well on your college entrance exams. Average and below average scores can cause colleges to reject you without even looking at other factors such as your GPA. Most colleges have a minimum score that they will accept for college entrance exams. There are a number of things that you can do to help prepare for the exams. There are books available that you can use to study. Although the questions in the study books are not what are on the test, they help prepare you for the types of questions that ill be on the actual exams. In conjunction with studying the entrance exam books, you can take a entrance exam prep class to help you prepare. Studies have shown that these prep classes can significantly improve college entrance exam scores. They don't tend to cost a lot of money and it is money well spent. You can take a practice test. This will help you to see which areas are your strong points and which areas you need to work on. By concentrating on studying to improve your weaknesses you can improve you scores from the practice test to the real test. Finally, take care of yourself as the exam approaches. Get plenty of rest the entire week before the exam. Eat well, especially the morning of test. Don't load up on carbohydrates as it can affect your blood sugar and cause you to crash during the test. Instead, eat a well balanced diet that includes proteins and drink water. Whether you choose to do one or all of these suggestions, the only person that can do anything to improve your college entrance exams is you. Since taking the entrance exams is your first step to your future, make sure you star off on the right foot by doing what you can t help yourself be prepared. Anyone in the world By Patrick Malcolm Since the year eight hundred ten the city of Venice, Italy has been standing strong and mighty with its ever present clock tower, and St. Marks square. What few people know however is that 'The city of Venice rests on the hearts of Larch.' In the ninth century the name 'Pine' had yet to be coined, so today if you translate that saying, you get, 'The city of Venice rests on the hearts of Pine.' Today heart Pine is a very valuable building commodity, so imagine that the entire city of Venice rests on hundreds of thousands of antique, 'hearts of pine,' trunk, bark and all. Pine trees throughout the world, have, since the beginning of time, been a key factor in the advancement of man kind. When cave men discovered fire, it was such a hot commodity that in order to keep their precious new discovery burning throughout the night, they would collect pine cones from the forests of towering pine trees and place them on the smoldering embers. The resin would act with the moisture of the pine cones and burn for hours. The next morning the Neanderthals were able to stoke the fire, and billows of smoke would come wisping out and as they added twigs of slag pine, and small, dry, kindling, branches the flames would begin to pour forth. The men would catch fish with triton's made from twisted and carved pine tree branches, and kill boar, and small game with spears caved from the small, strait, trunks of young pine trees. As the women would make loin cloths from the skins of large animals and cook food over flames, the men were experimenting with building. It is thought by some that the caveman evolved into the Neanderthal when he learned how to build. The evolving men would drive posts into the ground and strap pine tree limbs to the top using the sinews of animals, and resin from the pine tree was used to help secure pine tree needles to the roof for shelter. Pine trees are evergreen, coniferous, (conebearing) trees that are found in all parts of the world (six of seven continents). There are approximately one hundred twenty species of pine trees. There are short pine trees, tall pine trees, wide pine trees, skinny pine trees and colored Pine trees. Pine trees have green to bluish grey leaves in the form of needles that are arranged in bundles of two to five or six to eight, depending on species. The cones of pine trees range in size from to 12 inches. The Longleaf pine, Pinus paulustris, bears one of the largest cones, up to 10 inches and the Mugo pine, Pinus mugo, has one of the smallest cones at to 2. Pine trees can tower to 130 feet high, such as the Longleaf pine, or grow to a shrubby 8 feet high, such as Mugo pines. Pine trees are so adaptable that they are known to naturally cross pollinate between species to evolve into an improved species. This is the case with the Sonderegger Pine, Pinus palastris x Pinus teada, of the Southeast. A natural hybrid cross between Longleaf Pine and Loblolly pine that takes on the best qualities of both species: longer pine needles and fatter pine cones with faster consistent growth, resulting in a mature tree in an unbelievably short amount of time. Pine trees are the leading source for paper products and building materials in the world. Loblolly pine, Pinus teada, is one of the leading timber species in the United States, growing from New Jersey to Florida to Texas. The timbers of this species are very compact and make them a great choice for pine tree flooring. In the 19th century, pine tree growers noticed that the sap from pine trees could be collected and boiled down with several bi-products that could be equally marketed, making the Tree Sap Boom so successful. Resin oil could be taken for cough, and scratchy throat, and some soaps, and glues were also processed, with turpentine as the primary bi-product. Pine trees also began to be harvested around this time on a commercial level devastating forests to make paper, and build houses. Pine trees are also known throughout the outdoor world as a survival plant. The cambium, or sub-bark, is moist and almost sweet, but rich in vitamins A and C. In Sweden in the winter time the Swedes often make 'strunt' tea from the needles and tiny baby pine cones of the Pinus nigra - European Black Pine tree or Austrian Pine tree. Pine tree cultivars recommended to plant and grow in the United States, whether, you grow them as a specimen tree, or plant entire Pine tree plantations are as follows: Loblolly Pine, Pinus taeda; Longleaf Pine, Pinus palustris; Mugo Pine, Pinus mugo 'Compacta'; Slash Pine, Pinus elliottii; Sonderegger Pine, Pinus x 'Sondereggeri'; and White Pine, Pinus strobus. Strange that so few come to the woods to see how the pine tree lives and grows and spires, lifting its evergreen arms to the light ..... to see its perfect success. -- Henry David Thoreau Learn more about various trees by visiting the author's website: http://www.tytyga.com Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Patrick_Malcolm http://EzineArticles.com/?History-Of-Pine-Trees&id=440236 cash america cash advance

Anyone in the world By Bill Morrison Harsh statistics reveal that obesity is at record levels in the USA, with many European countries following where America leads. Those of us who aren't obese could probably do with shedding a few pounds as well, but the thought of giving up our beer or reducing our snack intake doesn't bear thinking about. Before we look at the easiest way to lose weight it's useful to look at some of the facts about being overweight. Being overweight increases your chances of a heart attack or stroke, type 2 diabetes, back problems, high blood pressure, gallbladder problems, osteoarthritis, sleep apnea, respiratory problems and some forms of cancer. The first step on the road to loosing a few pounds is to condition your mind to the fact that you DO really want to lose weight! It is important to realise that you didn't put these extra pounds on in the last week or the last month but over a period of time. It is therefore important to condition yourself to the fact that you are not going to lose those extra pounds in a few days or a few weeks! TO BE SUCCESSFUL AND KEEP THE POUNDS OFF IT'S GOING TO INVOLVE A LIFESTYLE CHANGE. That's the bad news, but the good news is you can cheat and make it easy on yourself. The secret of losing weight is really very simple - you eat less! Researchers in the UK were confounded by the Atkins diet. How could people eat as much as they wished so long as it was in the diet plan? After years of analysis they stumbled across the answer - people on this diet actually did eat less and so lost weight. Your body is like a finely tuned machine, it needs energy to function. This energy is derived from the food we eat. If we eat more food than we 'burn' off it is stored as fat. Simply sitting around doing nothing uses energy - but not much, walking uses more and aerobic exercise uses even more. That's why combining exercise with eating less will increase the rate you will shed those unwanted pounds. The first step is to make diary of what you eat and when. If you can't be bothered to write it down you can go over it in your mind. Do this for about a week. It is important you become aware of your eating habits and how you are going to change them. Once you have made your diary select something you can cut out or reduce the quantity you eat. Your ideal would be to replace all between meal snacks with fresh fruit and try hard not to have such large helpings at your main meals. The best diet is to leave the table just before you get that full up feeling. Set yourself a realistic target of losing 12 to 30 pounds over the next year. Ideally the lower the target the more likely it is that you will achieve it. Your skin will readjust to a modest weight loss a lot easier than it would to shedding a lot of weight. You will be changing your diet gradually and so it will be much easier to stick to. Imagine after making your diary a typical days eating went something like this: Breakfast - fruit juice followed by bacon and egg and toast.
Mid morning snack: candy bar with cola.
Lunch - Pizza and cola.
Mid afternoon snack - coffee and doughnut
Dinner - Chinese take away
Evening - 2 to 3 beers and some snacks. Although this may be nothing like your eating habits for illustration purposes we will assume it is. Your eight step plan would then be something like this. Step One. Start off by cutting out either the candy bar in the morning or the doughnut in the afternoon. See how this goes. Check your weight regularly. After a month if you haven't lost weight you are cheating too much! Step Two. After a month now that you have shed a pound or two it is time to start easing in diet drinks or water instead of fizzy drinks. Step Three. Try to eat at least five pieces of fruit and vegetables each day. Introduce fruit in place of your mid day snacks. Step Four. If your main meals are mostly supermarket convenience meals or take away meals start looking for healthier options. Look for low fat, low salt and low sugar content in the supermarket convenience meals and go for average portions in take away meals. Cut down on the amount of French fries you have with meals. Step Five. Reward yourself with 3 squares of dark chocolate each day, preferably with a high cocoa content (70%). The flavanoids in dark chocolate are important for a healthy heart. Use this as a substitute for your mid-day snacks or to replace after meal desserts. Once you've adjusted to a modest change and hopefully a few pounds lighter then its time to consider a lifestyle change. Step Six. If you do not have enough fibre in your diet it's time to start introducing some and what better time of the day to begin than at breakfast. Replace the fry up with high fibre cereal. Eat multigrain or whole wheat bread. Don't forget to cheat at the weekend and have you favourite fry up! Step Seven. Drink only diet drinks, replace sugar with no sugar or use a sweetener in coffee or tea. Introduce a glass of red wine into your daily diet - swap this one for one with one of your preferred alcoholic drinks. Week-ends tend to be a big self reward time. Try to moderate the food and drink input at these times. Step Eight. Ensure you have a good workout at least twice a week to get the heart rate up. Walk , cycle or run at least one mile a day. Once you've done all this examine the lifestyle changes you've made and find out the best healthy eating diet and exercise plan to suit your needs in keeping your weight under control. This information in this article should not be used to treat, or prevent any disease. You should always consult with your health care professional on matters relating to your own dietary needs and on all health matters that may require diagnosis or medical attention. Anyone in the world By Jim Foster I guess we all know that obesity is at epidemic levels. It's drummed into us from all angles. Isn't it strange that we have the biggest range of low-fat foods available but we keep getting fatter? Isn't somebody going to stand up and say "It hasn't worked"? In the 70's and 80's we were told that fat was the enemy, and carbohydrates were good. The USDA Healthy Food Pyramid had carbs as the base (6-11 servings per day). There was however, little mention of the quality of these carbohydrates. Manufacturers were quick to respond, and began bringing out "Low Fat", "Fat-Free", and "Lite" versions of various food products. These are generally the biggest selling items, and have resulted in lot's of clever marketing tactics - in fact anything to make the consumer feel guilty, and look for the "Fat-Free" option. Milk - Is Whole Milk Really That Bad? Most of our modern milk undergoes the process of homogenisation. This process forces the fat globules into an atomiser (i.e. tiny holes) that will form tiny particles. These particles are then evenly dispersed throughout the milk, giving the milk a uniform appearance. Most of our low fat, trim, super-trim milks are created using this process. However, recent research has shown that structural changes do occur in the homogenisation process. In unhomogenised milk, an enzyme called xanthine oxidase would pass throught the digestive system, and be secreted harmlessly through the bowel. The homogenisation process allows this enzyme to enter the bloodstream. Some researchers are saying the enzyme attacks the issues of our heart and arteries, encouranging an increase in cholesterol levels! Low Fat Hasn't Worked The evidence of the last twenty years, is showing us that just choosing a low-fat version of a food is not helping us lose weight. In fact, we need to question, the processes that go on to make certain foods "low fat". Many blame a high amount of refined carbohydrates (white flours, sugars) as having an impact on our weight problem. Why Are We So Fat? More and more evidence is showing that we eat too much, and exercise too little. Our lifestyles are very sedentary, and portion size has increased. The US Center for Disease Control (CDC) has concluded that "we eat a lot a whole lot more than we used to, and most of the increase comes from refined carbohydrates (sugar)." In the 1970's the average person ate 136 pounds of flour and cereal products per year and now it's up to 200 pounds. The increase is almost all from processed, white flour, high sugar foods. In addition, everything has been super-sized. Example: 1955 McDonald's French fries 2.4 ounces, 210 calories. 2004 Super size Fries 7 ounces, 610 calories. What's The Answer? Don't get too hung up complex nutrient ratios told to you by the latest diet book. You need to find what works for you and your body. It's a process of trial and error. Start with a diet, then keep working at it until you find what is best for you and your health. Try to eat whole unprocessed food where possible, and eat little and often to regulate your energy levels. Go easy on all the refined foods - it's hard - because everywhere you go - most of the food is made from cheap refined flours and base products. Also try to get out and stretch your legs more often. www.freedieting.com is a resource for everything concerning losing weight. Anyone in the world By Bruce Burnett The word Woodruff is derived from the Anglo-Saxon wudurofe, from wudu, or woods, referring to the herbs natural habitat deep in the dark forests of Europe. In Germanys Black Forest, where sweet woodruff grows prolifically, the herb is known as Waldmeister, or Master of the Forest. The designation sweet refers to the vanilla-like, new mown hay fragrance the leaves and flowers impart when dried. This is due to the presence of Coumarin, which like patchouli has the ability to be a fixative to other fragrances in addition to its own aromatic contribution to perfumes and potpourris. "Ruff" derives from the French rovelle, meaning wheel, describing the arrangement of the leaves around the stem. In Old French, it was known as muge-de-boys or "musk of the woods." In the garden, sweet woodruff makes an attractive perennial ground cover especially for shaded areas. Indeed, sweet woodruffs leaves will yellow and its pretty white-flowering will lessen if exposed to too much sun. Although it will grow with abandon through self-seeding and underground rhizomes once established, the seed can be difficult to germinate so its best to buy your initial plants from a commercial grower or garden center. If starting from seed, make sure theyre fresh and they must be stratified to germinate. The plant grows to six inches in both height and width. It is a perennial to zone 3 and flowers from May to June developing a bristly seed that is dispersed by attaching itself to the fur of passing animals. Sweet woodruff is considered a tonic, along with being anti-spasmodic and diuretic. The herb is regarded as a mild sedative, especially to counteract nervous tension in the very young and elderly. It is supposed to benefit digestion and be helpful with liver obstructions and hepatitis. For these reasons the herb was, and still is, added to early wine in addition to sweetening the harsh flavor of the immature libation. In Germany, Maibowle or Maiwein (May wine) is still drunk as a spring tonic and to mark the passage of winter, along with other May Day celebrations, many of which date back to the time of the Druids. The herbs association with springtime and newness has led to its being carried in sachets to aid in the fulfillment of fresh plans and new starts. Woodruff is also carried to attract wealth and to bring victory to athletes and soldiers. When carried in a leather pouch, it will guard against all evil. Woodruff was strewn on the floors of medieval churches. Garlands of the leaves decorated statues, especially those of the Blessed Virgin, on St. Barnabass Day (June 11) and St. Peters Day (June 20). Although sweet woodruff makes a pleasant addition to some herbal tea blends and may be safely added to desserts and some drinks such as wine and cider the herb can be toxic and may cause internal bleeding if taken to excess. Avoid the herb completely if pregnant or if taking general medication, even aspirin. The active ingredient, Coumarin, is used to produce anticoagulant drugs. As a fragrant herb and a fixative, sweet woodruff makes an perfect addition to potpourris. Its sedative qualities also make it the ideal partner for hops in a sleep pillow. Sweet Woodruff was tied around the calves of women in labor and stuffed into their pillow to bring restful sleep and strengthen the nerves. Heres a simple recipe for an herbal sleep pillow, the moss acting as both a cushion and to quieten the rustling of the other herbs: Sweet Woodruff Sleep Pillow 1 part dried sweet woodruff
2 parts dried hops
4 parts dried forest moss. Just stuff the mixture into a pillow. Some May wine is simply the fresh leaves and flowers of sweet woodruff added to white wine. Other recipes can be more complex, such as the following: May Wine 1 gallon dry white wine
1 handful of fresh sweet woodruff leaves and flowers, chopped
1 cup of sugar
6oz. of brandy
1 bottle of champagne, chilled
1 whole orange, quartered
12 fresh strawberries
Several sprigs of fresh woodruff with flowers for garnish. Mix the wine, the chopped sweet woodruff, the brandy and the fruit in a large bowl and allow it to sit for at least 12 hours. Strain and remove the woodruff. Add the sugar and stir until dissolved. Pour in the chilled champagne and stir. Serve with the fresh woodruff as a garnish. For those who would like a lower alcohol content, omit the brandy and substitute ginger ale for the champagne. Sweet woodruff, especially in combination with other herbs, can alleviate even the most severe headache, including migraine. Try the following tea next time your head is pounding. The herbs may be fresh or dried; the ration remains the same. Herbal Headache Tea Blend 2 parts sweet woodruff
1 part lavender flowers
1 part thyme
2 parts cowslip flowers Pour one cup of boiling water over two teaspoons of the herbal tea blend. Let the tea steep covered for 5-10 minutes then strain and pour. Sweeten with honey if desired. Anyone in the world By Jean Neuhart What do you think of when you hear the word Wedding? Probably something quite similar to what most other people are thinking a beautiful bride in white, tossing a lovely bouquet and garter, a scrumptious towering cake . . . So many things are specifically associated with weddings most of which are based on centuries-old traditions and symbolism. However, traditions have to start somewhere. There had to be a first time that any of these practices took place, and superstition or practicality was usually the underlying reason. Some traditions were originated to keep away the evil spirits:
Bridal bouquet - originally made of herbs, such as thyme and garlic, not flowers. The herbs were chosen for their strong smell, with the intent to frighten away evil spirits. Bridesmaids dressing alike - the bride and her maids used to dress similarly to confuse the evil spirits. Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue - originated in England to ward off the evil spirits. Also, honking car horns after a wedding, or tying tin cans to the back of the get-away car were done as the noise scared off the evil spirits. Other traditions were symbols of fertility:
The wedding cake - during the days of the Roman Empire, wheat or barley cakes (more like loaves) were broken over the head of the new bride by her groom symbolizing her fertility. Giving a favor of Italian confetti, or candy-covered almonds - these used to be tossed at the couple representing fertility and good luck. Tossing rice - originated with the ancient Hindus and Chinese to bestow fertility upon the bride and groom, as rice is the symbol of fruitfulness and prosperity in these cultures. Some traditions remain with a specific culture, rather than having become the norm for American weddings:
Indian - The Redenga is an exchange of flower garlands during the ceremony which symbolizes the couples acceptance of each other. Egyptian - Women pinch the bride for good luck. Irish - Giving a bell as a gift - the chime of bells is thought to keep evil spirits away, and also remind a couple of their wedding vows. Swedish - the bride puts a silver coin from her father and a gold coin from her mother in each shoe to ensure that shell never do without. Other traditions stem from practicality to serve a specific purpose rather than being based on superstition. Although the practical purpose no longer holds true for todays society, these traditions hold fast: Why there are two envelopes with the invitation:
Invitations used to be hand delivered by messenger. In transport, the outer envelope would get dirty. When the messenger arrived at the destination, he would discard the outer, soiled envelope, and present the invitation to the recipient in just the inner, clean envelope. Why couples kiss at the end of their ceremony:
While many cultures share the more romantic belief that the couple exchanged spirits with their breath and part of their souls were exchanged as they kiss, this tradition actually originated with the Romans who used a kiss to seal a binding contract. Why there is a garter toss:
Prior to the 14th century, it was believed that possessing part of the brides garments brought good luck, so people actually tried to tear off pieces of her clothing. The tradition of a garter toss started in the 14th century after brides were tired of having to fight off people trying to tear at her clothing. Why brides wear white:
Contrary to popular belief, this has nothing to do with purity or virginity. The white wedding gown started with Queen Victoria in 1840. She wanted a dress that was specially for her wedding day, rather than wear one of her Sunday Best as was common practice at the time. Her of a white satin and lace gown remains the preferred choice of modern brides. If a white gown was good enough for a queen . . . Jean Neuhart is the owner of Weddings From The Heart . Anyone in the world By Jaelin K. Reece Do you find yourself dreading family gatherings? Is the family situation trying and very draining on your emotional state? Staying centered when others around us are spinning in excitement, anticipation or agitation is never easy. It is challenging to hold our own position at times. The energy encountered in your family can be overwhelming. When you have to be at a family gathering, remember to take a few simple steps before getting out of your car: 1. Take three deep breaths. 2. Pull in your energetic field closer to your body (this contains your energy so it is not so porous and expanded- keeping you from picking up others energies). You can also do this by crossing your arms over your heart, hugging yourself tightly and feeling very contained. 3. Focus your energy on your feet- feeling how rooted you are to the earth. 4. Clear your mind and focus on the task at hand, knowing you are centered within yourself and nothing can truly harm you or hurt you. These few simple methods will help you have a better experience. They seem like very simple concepts, but each has a specific purpose and work together to bring you into a state of conscious awareness. This awareness is the most powerful tool we possess. If you have conscious awareness you are remaining empowered in your personal space. This can assist you in holding your own energy rather than being drained by the swirling energy around you. Its easy to get caught up in family tension, experiencing undue demands on yourself and the guilt that comes with living according to old feelings of expectation and duty. Simply because something has been unchanged for years, does it mean it is the only way it can be done? Think about the ramifications of some of these expectations that have been passed down through the family for generations. Do the family expectations make you uncomfortable? Do you visit members of the family out of duty rather than out of excitement and joy? Are you weighed down by the expectations placed upon you? Is there a sense of loyalty that is defining your every move? What would happen if you created a new way of responding? Would it be more fulfilling to you personally? Would you feel guilt? Would it bring you joy? Would it be exciting? Would it be too uncomfortable? Only you would know inside yourself what your response would be. Is it worth finding out? Step out on your own and do things differently the next time you are at a family gathering. Why not take the risk to change? Change is the healthiest thing we can ever do for ourselves. Being caught in a routine is stifling and can cause our energies to stagnate. Samsara is a Sanskrit word that means to me, the only thing that never changes, is the fact that everything changes. Samsara is about flow. Energy in flowing motion is free and openly being expressed. Energy held in expectation and tradition can be stagnant and unmoving. Which do you prefer? Which do you choose? Take the leap and make a change! And most of all, remember its about your wellbeing. Do what brings you joy. Allow that to be the guiding force within you. 2005 Jaelin K. Reece Jaelin K.
